Supporting the plight of the fairy tern
The critically endangered New Zealand Fairy Tern has a total population of just 43 birds, teetering on the brink of extinction since the 1970s. The birds once nested throughout the North Island but now, due to predation, habitat loss and disturbance during the breeding season, they can only be found at a very few sites around the north of Auckland. Winstone Aggregates has sponsored Forest and Bird and their project to assess their current breeding sites and potential new breeding sites on the Kaipara Harbour.

A haven for plant and bird life and a place for future generations to enjoy
In late 2003, Mahrukh and Thomas Stazyk purchased a 59 acre farm in Araparera, north of Auckland. With around 24% of the property already covered in native forest and wetlands, the couple are determined to turn the remainder of the property into a sustainable forest eco-system by restoring the connections between the forest remnants. Winstone Aggregates is working with the Stazyk’s on their project, CUE Haven, by providing metal for walking tracks.
