Otamarakau Quarry has been a part of the local community since the 1960s when it was owned and run by the Cameron family. Winstone Aggregates purchased the site in 2007 to assist in serving and expanding Bay of Plenty manufacturing and construction markets.

The property is unusual in that high-grade deposits of pumice, sand and greywacke occur in close proximity. The quality of fresh greywacke from the site is very high with minimal argillaceous or altered zones. It can therefore be used as a premium sealing chip, cement aggregate and basecourse material.
