Wiremu Road Quarry is located in Opunake, within the Oanui catchment. Operating on a commercial basis since 1985, the quarry supplies concrete and roading aggregates to the Taranaki region.
The site is situated on the mid-upper slopes of the ring plain associated with the Taranaki Volcano that last erupted about 200 years ago. The ring plain is composed of volcanic debris-avalanche, lahar, and alluvial deposits varying in age from recent to over a hundred thousands years old.
