2013 Mimico environmental award winner

Winstone Quarry Manager Jason Hinton and his team at Rodney Aggregates Supplies, Whangaripo Quarry, north of Auckland recently scooped GOLD in the prestigious 2013 MIMICO Environmental Awards.

The MIMICO awards recognise environmental work undertaken in our industry, and Jason collected the award for his work with local iwi in biodiversity and pest control, plantings and joining a council-run community water monitoring programme. In presenting the award, judge Dr. Morgan Williams, the former Commissioner for the Environment who visited every contending site, noted that Jason’s passionate leadership was an inspiration.

Jason received a special mention for his valient attempt to catch and relocate native mudfish from a quarry settlement pond at a time when their favourite bat, Marmite, was temporarily unavailable!

Congratulations are also in order for the team at Three Kings Quarry in Auckland who picked up the Bronze Award for their work to assist drivers in best practice as part of the controlled filling of the site.

The awards were presented at the recent Aggregate and Quarry Association of New Zealand’s annual conference in Dunedin.
