Winstones established the Hunua quarry in 1956, one of Auckland’s largest, it produces greywacke rock, supplying a substantial part of the region’s quality aggregate requirements, primarily for infrastructure such as roading and concrete.
Hunua’s first pit resource life ended in 2017 and is now the site for Hunua Managed Fill. Symonds Hills the second extraction area within the quarry zone began in 2016, covering the Auckland and North Waikato regions.
