“We are delighted to be recognised for our first EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), which is not only a first for us but also a first for the industry. This was two years of hard work and I’d like to make special mention to Nicola Macpherson who led this project”, says Ian Wallace, Environmental Manager.
This is a true privilege for the Winstone team as sustainability is an essential element of their business strategy.
In February 2022 they released their first EPD for aggregate and sand products. This is also the first EPD for Aggregate and Sand products in New Zealand and covers the embodied carbon of products from the following existing quarries: Otaika Quarry (Northland), Flat Top Quarry (Auckland), Hunua Quarry (Auckland), Pukekawa Quarry (Auckland), Whitehall Quarry (Waikato), Otaki Quarry (Wellington), Belmont Quarry (Wellington) and Petone Sand (Wellington).
“Our EPD demonstrates that we are committed to sustainability, transparency of our environmental impact and the pathway to reducing carbon emissions”,
“In publishing our EPD we have been able to establish a baseline impact and implement the first of many projects that will see us reduce our environmental footprint. Our sustainability strategy is focused on five key areas : carbon reduction, biodiversity, water, waste, and social impact, which includes building cultural capability across our workforce”, says Ian Wallace.
The industry sponsored MIMICO Environmental & Community Award annually recognising excellence within the aggregate industry for outstanding examples of environmental effects mitigation, rehabilitation, positive community engagement, emissions reduction, or other environmental work.
Congratulation to Winstone Aggregates Environmental team for winning this milestone on their sustainability journey.
